Jan. 9th, 2022 07:27 pmme when i stan kep1er against my will... here's me and my first impressions on kep1er after debut and watching exactly one(1) video from them. (idk how many i actually watched but just know it can be counted on one hand). also now that i've expanded my html horizons... i am unstoppable. i literally created a tweet in here im fucking insane. (oh and please ignore the uhhh gradient headers i got a little carried away.... do not let stem students on dreamwidth.)
here were my initial thoughts from the tl:

FIRST. a quick produce debut ranking, now factoring in kep1er's.
la vie en rose > dream girls > energetic > flash > wa da da
this is as objective as one can get imo. i think la vie en rose was the best, not just because of the gorgeous visuals and aesthetics of it all, but b/c of how well it fit the girls. like they all fit the concept amazingly to me. they were in synch, the meaning behind la vie en rose was cheesy but it made sense and it worked out!!! dream girls was a fresh bright debut. perfect song and perfect sound to give ioi. i only put it second because i seriously hate this song and i think it’s a little generic. energetic is Also generic but intensely generic. flash is as generic as a 4th gen bg song gets but i like it and it’s also better than whatever the hell wa da da is. it’s also near the best of 4th gen bg music somehow.
wa da da isn’t generic to me but it feels soooo disconnected. i hate the rock part of it smushed in with a cute ohh-oh! in the chorus. Pick a side! and use your members properly! also make a song that hits on the first listen im so tired of convincing myself i like a song 36 listens later…. this is not ncity!!! the keplerzens said it themselves!!!

HI OKAY. IT'S ME. after approximately 15 listens to this song PLUS listens from content (bkg noise) and clips on twitter. i am fairly well acquainted with all parts of the song and i have to say. (OBVIOUSLY???) it is not as bad as i initially thought. i did drag it thru the dust at first but like IT'S OK. i've concluded that a) not All songs can grow on me and b) i do not Like this song but damn that is so fucking catchy. ignoring like .the angry rock teenage feel of the chorus that pisses me off so much i like the vroom vroom supersonic part (god that's embarrassing to type out) and i think chaehyun's parts are amazingly good... these vocal lines should all be hers. (more on that later).
what makes me think gp999 wasn’t rigged (in terms of rankings) was xiaoting being placed last yet the continued push for xiaoting to be center. not that i’m complaining. she IS kind of the perfect center visually. she’s tall, pretty (objectively the prettiest in the group) and (i think) the most popular member as of now (in contrast to her final ranking in gp999.. not sure what happened There). not just in wa da da but in their bsides too... one thing about mnet is that they're NOT gonna be subtle. they’ll give chaehyun a second or two in the initial formation. because they’re contractually obligated to. and then it goes into a line/intro from xiaoting. (0:14 - 0:35 in shine and 0:00 - 0:12 in wa da da)
i don’t know why mnet didn’t shift xiaoting’s ranking around when i know very well they probably switched chaehyun and bahiyyih’s ranking around (um literally no way they’d let bahiyyih be first). this show is very much popularity based but i guess they failed to take into account how popular bahiyyih would be? they never evil edited her at all... maybe she’s just too pure hearted for them to seriously paint her in a bad light idk. but now mnet is like well well well if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions. and hueningkai. MAYBE IF THEY LEFT THE WHOLE HUENINGKAI SPIEL OUT IT WOULDN’T BE LIKE THIS (but they had to because that was the only interesting thing they could say about bahiyyih + more txt fans means more viewers of the show).
dayeon is Still trying way too hard. i originally thought this was the pressure of the survival show which made her overdance and be cringy onstage but she uh. she’s still doing it. like her very first line in wa da da annoys me. i’m hoping that’s just the fact that this is her debut and over time she’ll relax... at first i couldn’t tell if that was overconfidence in her abilities which made her overdance on stage or if she was under confident which translated to trying more than she should in performances. in gp she probably was doing just fine! like i think pop/stars was only a Little over the top. but then she got hit with Not Being First anymore and it definitely messed with her… and THEN mnet made her the Protagonist, which is when ice cream rolled around. that was when i Really took notice of her performance style. at that point i was like maybe she’s recovering from /Not Being First Anymore/ . LET'S GIVE HER THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. but noooo it was there the whole fucking time after. so now i’m thinking this is just how she performs and i will always have to deal with it 😔 by the time their comeback rolls around if it’s still like this i will sigh in defeat…. guys i could help her. I Could Fix Her Now if they Let Me.
this IS a group of dancers... woahh their performances Could be so good. but there are two that do not get up to the level of the rest. i mean obviously i don’t expect everyone in a group to be stellar dancers but damn it is unfortunate that most of these girls were mainly dancers on girls planet and yujin and bahiyyih... weren’t.
first... yujin. okay. she’s an idol already right. what the hell was she doing in clc then? 😭😭 she is Not center material and she’s kinda stiff as a dancer (that could be that dress tho). i guess her facial expressions are okay..? she doesn’t have that Stage Presence i see from at least half the members. going into girls planet i expected soooo much from her only to watch her be consistently outshone by other contestants... hearing her be called in the final lineup was sort of Eh at that point. like she definitely wasn’t my 1pick anymore... and i was debating whether she was even in my ideal lineup. anyways she is continuing to be outdone in kepler by literally every member except maybe bahiyyih.
bahiyyih. she’s young and i think she needed a lot more training before debuting but Ah the nepotism ruined it all. i have the same thoughts on her as i did with wonyoung in izone - i wish she hadn’t debuted so she could either train some more and quit being an idol or train some more and have a stronger debut. with wonyoung, if she hadn’t debuted in izone, she wouldn’t have had any of the popularity she does now. but bahiyyih has hueningkai so. i actually think that should’ve been the route she went.
ANYWAYS back to dancing. she’s sort of a subpar dancer. looking at the full cam of wa da da and it’s like. well she is lia here essentially, without the vocals. she’s keeping up with the choreo and i can Tell she’s trying but it’s hard to do that when everyone surrounding you is a good dancer (re: itzy lia).
okay and the choreo itself is so bad. i don’t mean bad like terrible, i mean it’s so basic and average and boring. i know they’ll pick that thumb part as the point move but tbh Nothing stands out to me after watching it 5+ times. also What are these moves. what was the shit with the thumb like. 3:32 why did they have mashiro raise her hand..... if only to ruin the beautiful line.
also i don’t know Who came up with this (and they should be fired and killed and shot immediately) but they have bahiyyih dancing to these small adlibs during the chorus. WHO THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA???? it looks so… out of place? this isn’t even her fault. poor girl. if you do have a dancer who’s going to do something differently than the rest, at least make it flow. they’re all doing one move and she suddenly shoots her arms into the air…. wtf.
good example of flow (to me or whatever) is in itzy’s not shy, when ryujin shouts “not shy!” in the chorus and fans her face. the other four simply point to her and then they all continue a move. THAT’S FLOW. not wa da da. whatever that is. it’s pissing me off that they’d get such a mediocre debut... aren't they supposed to replace izone, who debuted with LA VIE EN ROSE? and they get… wa da da? omg they hate them
the chaehyun and youngeun main slayage though… whoo whee these girls can SING!!! i know mnet was clinging to youngeun for dear life. they needed vocals and rn xiaoting is like a wonyoung in terms of vocals (aka subpar technique and decent enough range) so it worked out for them. and chaehyun is a good idol ! i am sorry i cyberbullied and doubted her repeatedly. she’s got stage presence, a voice, and pretty good dancing. i don’t see a problem with her.
also just separate paragraph to fully and properly appreciate the support in chaehyun’s voice…. SHE’S AN IDOL???? like i can hear her support and it’s sooo goddamn beautiful this is a beautiful thing in kpop. youngeun needs to take some notes. all of them actually. they werent kidding when they said she was a trainee since time... she’s a hard worker for sure. im kinda sad she didn’t make too much of an impact during girls planet. like yeah she got first i guess but personally i think she was sort of the token leader/girl with the most experience of whatever group she was in... never felt the like main girl. no xiaoting levels of anything. so truly, why was she first? also, i’m glad she’s first. she will do great things and she is everything somi had but better, in my opinion, cause she can fucking sing. (MINUS personality but i guess there's a separate section Them as people so i can't talk about it here)

mvsk is actually kind of good. many people have said this i have never had an original thought so whatever but Why wasnt that the title track again? i prefer these girls doing less of a cute concept like wa da da and more of a mvsk/izone sequence esque concept. they suit it better. please plagiarize more izone.
sidenote the mvsk camerawork seeeeriously bothers me… what is with the random cuts to members here and there. i think it’s because whichever choreographer worked on this (i heard on reddit it was one of iz*one’s choreographers???? what happened 💀) thought choreographing adlibs was a good idea so now the camera has to insert cut/insert other cut to actually show off that member which. ugh god could they not have fixed this! even if the choreo sucked they didn’t have to do all that...
i love the way they all bully yujin... something something DOYOUNGISMS… not only that but they’re both bunnies. my tokkis :3 not that i expected kepler to bully their maknae but i just didn’t think they’d be as similar to izone as they are now... (there is um. bullying eunbi=bullying yujin plus the lack of actual rappers and 4/9 members feeling like a load of filler but anyways.)
omg i could bias yeseo at this point..!? she reminds me of wooseok from x1 a lot. they’re both suuuper pretty and they talk in this way that’s so proper and almost . m. like jaemin sort of LOL the complaining part of him. the members said yeseo talks a lot, and they didn’t expect her to talk so much HELLO this is wooseok…. but also wooseok did not have the advantage of being the cute little maknae. yeseo is legally obligated to be adored and treasured by the members. also lucky for her, there’s yujin, who will shield her from most of the teasing because SHE’S the target. (x1 didn’t really have a bully older member system it was like. clear divide between hyungline and maknaeline, plus they were only active for five months so this gap was never narrowed.)

YESEO IS A GRANDMA LMFAO that is the best way i can describe her. she talks a lot, she’s the cook of the group, she had a fucking dad joke up her sleeve… omg <3 bahiyyih feels like the real maknae in all honestly even when they’re together in this clip, yeseo feels older... also a fav yeseo moment of mine.
HIKARU ^__^ my affectionate little jelly bean. I LOVE HOW AFFECTIONATE SHE IS… xiaoting was talking about how she gives hugs and kisses and then in the debut show they mentioned her little cheek rub >__< and then she kept doing the cheek rub with everyone and they are endlessly obsessed with her b/c she’s so CUTE. i am now a part of the hikaru fan club and i Did hate her in girls planet. still sort of hate her on stage but i’ll get used to it in time dw.
miss seo youngeun is so . wonderful extrovert. she is literally yena. funny, they kinda all laugh at what she has to say, also she’s as brutally honest and hilarious as one should get. And, not my personal observation but i’m going to Trustlowhours on this one, she’s close to bahiyyih. which imo means that bahiyyih won’t really be alienated from the group…. i mean she has yujin and youngeun aka leader and semi-moodmaker on her side . she won’t be excluded. am i happy about that? tbh… yes. i hate when one member, even if it’s a member i hate, is isolated from the group in certain ways. (could go on a tangent about my feelings on cravity allen which r essentially the same: i hate him and i hate that he’s excluded from the group but, just to reiterate: i hate him and do not (should not) care. but i digress.) i just need the group to have general chemistry (Other tangent about nct dream > nct 127 BUT I DIGRESS) otherwise it’s hard for me to stan them. (insert other tangent about why i unstanned cravity. But I Digress.)
the way xiaoting acts like a mother around some and a baby around others is fascinating... i need to keep a lookout for how she treats the unnie line vs the maknaes. hikaru is already babied by her soo hmm...ALSO GUYS THIS. AYA SENT ME THIS

8. yujin - need more from her but her personality is >__< ack! to me. cute. and funny.
9. bahiyyih - hmmm… many thoughts but she is very young and i want to give her an honest chance so i will wait a few comebacks to seriously declare her enemy #1. she is pure hearted enough to win me over like i don’t think she expected or even wanted most of what she got but she is doing something with it so…. :) rue being nice for once.
might make a part 2 of this if i ever get around to watching kepler view hehe… for now i am thoroughly occupied by schoolwork and i have learned that i am incapable of getting work done with a show in the background. (i’m also incapable of paying attention to videos if my phone is anywhere in the room but we will figure it out.) as much as i might say otherwise i doooo actually like this group and most of the members, or at least, i find them all interesting enough to continue with it. especially xiaoting. my sweet <3

i love the way they all bully yujin... something something DOYOUNGISMS… not only that but they’re both bunnies. my tokkis :3 not that i expected kepler to bully their maknae but i just didn’t think they’d be as similar to izone as they are now... (there is um. bullying eunbi=bullying yujin plus the lack of actual rappers and 4/9 members feeling like a load of filler but anyways.)
omg i could bias yeseo at this point..!? she reminds me of wooseok from x1 a lot. they’re both suuuper pretty and they talk in this way that’s so proper and almost . m. like jaemin sort of LOL the complaining part of him. the members said yeseo talks a lot, and they didn’t expect her to talk so much HELLO this is wooseok…. but also wooseok did not have the advantage of being the cute little maknae. yeseo is legally obligated to be adored and treasured by the members. also lucky for her, there’s yujin, who will shield her from most of the teasing because SHE’S the target. (x1 didn’t really have a bully older member system it was like. clear divide between hyungline and maknaeline, plus they were only active for five months so this gap was never narrowed.)

YESEO IS A GRANDMA LMFAO that is the best way i can describe her. she talks a lot, she’s the cook of the group, she had a fucking dad joke up her sleeve… omg <3 bahiyyih feels like the real maknae in all honestly even when they’re together in this clip, yeseo feels older... also a fav yeseo moment of mine.
HIKARU ^__^ my affectionate little jelly bean. I LOVE HOW AFFECTIONATE SHE IS… xiaoting was talking about how she gives hugs and kisses and then in the debut show they mentioned her little cheek rub >__< and then she kept doing the cheek rub with everyone and they are endlessly obsessed with her b/c she’s so CUTE. i am now a part of the hikaru fan club and i Did hate her in girls planet. still sort of hate her on stage but i’ll get used to it in time dw.
miss seo youngeun is so . wonderful extrovert. she is literally yena. funny, they kinda all laugh at what she has to say, also she’s as brutally honest and hilarious as one should get. And, not my personal observation but i’m going to Trust
lowhours on this one, she’s close to bahiyyih. which imo means that bahiyyih won’t really be alienated from the group…. i mean she has yujin and youngeun aka leader and semi-moodmaker on her side . she won’t be excluded. am i happy about that? tbh… yes. i hate when one member, even if it’s a member i hate, is isolated from the group in certain ways. (could go on a tangent about my feelings on cravity allen which r essentially the same: i hate him and i hate that he’s excluded from the group but, just to reiterate: i hate him and do not (should not) care. but i digress.) i just need the group to have general chemistry (Other tangent about nct dream > nct 127 BUT I DIGRESS) otherwise it’s hard for me to stan them. (insert other tangent about why i unstanned cravity. But I Digress.)
the way xiaoting acts like a mother around some and a baby around others is fascinating... i need to keep a lookout for how she treats the unnie line vs the maknaes. hikaru is already babied by her soo hmm...ALSO GUYS THIS. AYA SENT ME THIS

might make a part 2 of this if i ever get around to watching kepler view hehe… for now i am thoroughly occupied by schoolwork and i have learned that i am incapable of getting work done with a show in the background. (i’m also incapable of paying attention to videos if my phone is anywhere in the room but we will figure it out.) as much as i might say otherwise i doooo actually like this group and most of the members, or at least, i find them all interesting enough to continue with it. especially xiaoting. my sweet <3
