this is a really good question... do u mean like thoughts on ME writing jungwoo? thoughts on how jungwoo is written? what's interesting to write about jungwoo? do we know him enough? I didn't know so i tried to cover everything i could ^__^
let me preface this by saying I Am Not A Writer. I've written one (incomplete) fic and it wasn't even NCT it was loona soooo take this with an enormous crystal of salt.
i actually think we know jungwoo enough to characterize him well! the best contents with which to get a good sense of him are probably the nct punch promotions... especially the office videos. I do think certain parts of him are like.... a little hard to get if you can't relate to things jwoo does or feels for ex. trying super hard to make people laugh. im guy who outsources validation just as much as this guy does so i get him... a lot more than i want to tbh. most of my mutuals hate him...i was sorta neutral on him but U KNOW ME. i am a hater. and if there's something to hate on then that is what i'll do. and so my opinion of jungwoo has pretty much tanked since then 😭
members I think would be the most fun to write are {haechan, mark, jaemin, jisung, johnny, ten, maaaybe jungwoo} and members i think are the hardest to write are {winwin, haechan, jaehyun, jaemin}. with jungwoo i think it really depends but ofc i am looking thru a canoncompliant lens here (please pleas eplease keep in mind I've never written them and am talking out of my ass LOL) anyways
📝 some parts to jungwoo's personality
his need for validation
so jungwoo is um. constantly trying to make everyone laugh I don't even need to cite a specific content here but i will. NCT 127 punch promotions oh my goodness this guy was a Please Laugh At Me machine. when i tell you that was both more than mildly entertaining and extremely difficult to watch. like. HE IS JUST OBSESSED WITH HAVING TO BE THE FUNNIEST PERSON IN THE ROOM. trying way too hard. i always scratch my head when i see some crack edit of "jungwoo being effortlessly funny" or "jungwoo being the funniest person in the room" cause a) not effortless and b) danggg i did not know people's senses of humor was fucking DEFUNCT like this.
u can tell when he expects a joke to land bc he will actually wait for laughter too its so fucigfgfsdkj i mean. would be fun to write i guess but that's. cringe. :[]
and i KNEW he was doing this because I did the exact same thing and have the exact same need for ppl to laugh at me. because i will die otherwise. jw is an introvert though so its slightly different... he does it bc hes comfortable enough with the members or to stand out in variety content. and tbh he doesnt achieve that but he still tries so good job i guess.
does he get people to laugh? not if the people laughing only laugh at things that are funny. so his solution is > hang out with mark and doyoung also queerbait jaehyun and boom suddenly life is so perfect.
things he does that i (shamefully) also did (emphases on DID):

Please give me validation kind of guy seems easier to me than Complex people and smart people. also FUNNY people. not having to be genuinely funny when u write a character bc that character isnt funny and only hangs around people who think he is? u won.
(because i miss him and i love him) haechan also has the desire to be admired but his isn't rlly similar to jungwoo's in that he is Actually funny and he gets admiration from nct like all the time. (he's def looking for validation as a Musical artist because that's not exactly something he gets (i am not going to get into haechan mistreatment and erasure OR haechans michael jackson complex... i wont be able to stop myself that's for another day <3)). in comparison thats like wayyyy harder to write oml jungwoo is cruising compared to the hellhole that is characterizing haechan.
would i like to write this: yes bc it's easy and simple enough for my pea brain made of tin. I love when one side of the relationship Needs the other side for approval. that's why i like markhyuck sm... mark laughing at anything u do would draw u to him immediately despite some of his. uh. dumbassery. stupidity. etc. u like people who make u feel good. this is why markwoo is enjoyable to me. not as superior as markhyuck but y'know. marks involved and it's a good time <3

poor jaehyun has to suffer this man's queerbaiting and HE JUST CAME OUT. it is so evil. and comedy gold. (ummm sidenote. sidenote that i dont want to admit and dont like but lots of healing being done in this post already so why not. jaehyun jungwoo is seeping up thru my ships list... not the top but they're getting too close for my liking.)
back to jungwoo. jungwoo will almost(ALMOST!) kiss his members (not all of them) or be super gay with them idk all over them, when they're generally okay with it. AND I GET IT OK. I AM YOU BUT AN EXTROVERT I DO THAT TOO. but u know he would never... actually do it. like. he wouldn't push it. and its different with certain members, definitely. first of all he doesnt because industry (contractually not allowed i think but its probably just more of a general kpop idol rule lol does it look like i Know things?). with jungwoo, unless the other member initiated an actual kiss or something jungwoo wouldn't push it. he doesn't really do things unless he's allowed to or feels comfortable enough... jaehyuns not gonna yknow. crucify him for being Like That so he does it. (as i reread this it no longer makes sense im hoping u can put something together anon sawry)
its so strange to me. in a lot of fics jwoo ends up in like such... situations. and messes that he created but i feel like (if we're going for accuracy here) he'd be much more cautious. or it wouldn't be THAT much of a disaster / THAT much mess coming from jungwoo's end. fics like the canoncomp jaewoo by idolrapper is exactly what i'm talking about... he might poke and prod and try something but ultimately it's jaehyun who actually initiates. and then jwoo sucks his dick at the end (After offering!) bc he feels like he Can ykwim. okay anyways we r done with the pwp im sorry kjsajfhskdfjh ☺️)
wiltwt: it's sort of debatable honestly. I like people who break rules and bounds. people who make the first move. people like haechan essentially... (do I make everything about him? YES.) it would be a lot more entertaining for me to write him as the typical messy jungwoo who lands himself in sticky situations (literally) OR like berry did in their jaewoo fic cause jungwoo was Extremely provoking and pushing it a ton yet not the one to initiate. but i have this disease where I have to write my character exactly like the real jungwoo or else I will die. so probably...... not(?)
when he's shy / when he's not
so we know jungwoo will do anything to get a laugh or two. but he was Theee shyest bitch ever at first i think it was maybe (maybe) (I say maybe bc it could've been someone else im pretty lazy with 127 content) yuta who kinda got him more comfy. whenever jungwoo would make a joke and it wasnt recognized by the other members, yuta would always notice it and laugh, or, at the very least, acknowledge his joke. which could suck but jungwoo is extremely desperate it's almost hilarious. yuta would also try to include him and stuff...? u know how that goes like just bringing him up and asking him to do this or that and participate. so I think jungwoo gradually got more comfortable, and in realizing that doyoung jaehyun and mark will laugh at every single thing he does, he found his people. glad that worked out for him. personally I think it was bearable to watch at first but he is trying WAYYY too hard to be funny these days and idk why. 😐 like DOYOUNG IS GOING TO LAUGH AT YOU ANYWAYS. YOU ARE DOING TOO MUCH. if you peel off all the idolsona pr boldness layers on variety shows (except weekly idol he was still A 9 year old on there) he is just a shy little boy ^__^
wiltwt: mmmm maybe if it was at a point in time where au-jungwoo is already well acquainted with the characters I need him to be with. I'm not a huge fan of strangers to lovers tbh fwb and strangers to lovers are the some of the first items of my List of Tropes That Do Not Fuck. did i mention i like bold moves and Oops-I-Kissed-Him-Now-There's-Consequences-and-Mixed-Feelings.
closing thoughts
if i had to rate it on a scale of these orange boxes (its supposed to be 1 to 10 ok) for how difficult it is to write jungwoo, relative to the other nct members, i'd put him like. here:
his personality isn't that complicated to write honestly (says the guy who has never written for nct.) i think it's more interesting to look at his relationships with each of the 127 members! since he joined in 2018 and developed different dynamics with them there is a lot to unpack Especially recently. things have changed in 127. i will not be going over that today bc to be frank. i haven't fully watched like... ANY kpop content recently? and to speak on these things i need to watch those thirty times minimum. hope this was a fulfilling answer if only a little bit <3
